Una noche (casi) espléndida

Hace unos días me fui con unas amigas a San Francisco a pasear y las lleve a Marin Headlands para ver el Golden Gate desde ahí que nunca lo habian hecho.  Es el mejor lugar para sacarle fotos al puente, y por suerte nos tocó un día sin niebla ni nubes ni nada, se veía clarito todo.  El único problema fue la cámara.  Voy a tener que ir afuera una noche de estas y practicar por que casí me vuelvo loca!  Primero el flash no andaba, después no sacaba las fotos, y cuando el flash se arreglo, no me iluminaba nada! Le saqué el flash, pero obvio no se veía nada, entonces le agrandé el ¨aperture¨ para que entre más luz, pero tenía que aguantar la cámara quieta por unos segundos para que salga bien... y por eso no quedaron ni muchas y muy buenas las fotos.  Pero bue, con práctica le voy a agarrar la mano a la fotografía nocturna!  Si alguno de ustedes tiene alguna recomendación para que pueda sacar fotos de noche sin tantos problemas, digánme por favor!

A few days ago I went with some friends to San Francisco to celebrate the end of the year, and I took them to the Marin Headlands to look at the Golden Gate, which they had never been to.  It is one of the places with the best view of the bridge and fortunately the night was clear, no fog or clouds or anything!  The only problem was my camera.  I am going to have to play around with it one of these nights so that next time I go out to shoot I don´t go crazy again!  First, the flash decided to quit working on me, then the camera decided to not take the pictures, and then when the flash started working again it barely illuminated the things right in front of me!  I turned off the flash, but then since, of course, I could not see anything I opened the aperture to get some light in.  But then I had to hold the camera very still for a few seconds for the pictures to come out clear.. which is why most of them didn´t.  So, in conclusion, practice makes perfect and that´s apparently what I will have to do!  If any of you have any suggestions about night photography so that I may avoid these issues next time, please let me know!

Porque es muy difícil que salga feo en una foto este puente

Hace 9 años que vivo acá, y todavia no puedo creer que tengo el puente del Golden Gate a 20 minutos de mi casa.  No miento cuando digo que me puedo quedar horas, y horas sacandole fotos a este puente.. y no me aburro!  Y lo digo por experiencia, lo he hecho!  No se muy bien por que es que cautiva tanto el Golden Gate.  No se nada de arquitectura, y menos que menos de puentes, pero ese rojo impresionante, las curvas cruzadas por las rectas, y las dos costas que une, a un lado una ciudad hecha y derecha, y al otro, montes y naturaleza pura crean una vista inolvidable.  Es realmente un lugar que vale la pena visitar... y  fotografiar!!

I have been living here for 9 years now, and still can´t believe that I have the Golden Gate just 20 minutes away from my house.  Honestly, I could stay hours and hours taking pictures of this bridge without getting bored!  And I am saying that from experience, because I have done it!  I don´t quite know what it is about the Golden Gate that captivates me in such a way.  I know nothing of architecture, and let alone bridges, but that bright red, the juxtaposition of the curves and straight lines, and the two coasts it unites, on one end an incredible city, and on the other hills and pure nature makes it a memorable place.  The Golden Gate is definitely worth visiting... and photographing!

Por las calles de la ciudad

Es curioso como la misma ciudad puede ser vista de tantas maneras.  Para algunos es un refugio, acogedora y hospitalaria, un hogar.  Para otros es fría y triste, la soledad absoluta.  Por ahora, la ciudad, San Francisco en este caso, me recuerda a Montevideo, y me encuentro en el primer grupo de personas.  No tienen nada que ver, pero ese ambiente típico de ciudad poblada, de alguna manera, me hace sentir cómoda.

It is interesting how the same city can be seen so drastically different.  For some, it is a refuge, welcoming and embracing, a home.  For others, its cold and sad, absolute solitude.  Right now, the city, in this case San Francisco, reminds me of Montevideo, and I find myself within the first group.  They are nothing alike, but that typical atmosphere of a crowded place, somehow makes me feel at home.

Creo que me pase como una hora sancandole fotos a las columnas estas!  No había mucha variedad pero estaban muy buenas!

...porque estaba parada a un metro del bicho y no me picoteo...

Este amiguito estaba muy tranquilo ahi paradito, posando para que los turistas le saquen fotos.  Yo me iba acercando y el ni problema se hizo... hasta llegue a estar a menos de un metro del bicho este!

This little friend of mine was very calm, standing there and posing as tourists snapped away.  I kept on getting closer and closer, but he seemed to not even care... I ended up being just a few feet away!
